Formento & Formento are a dynamic husband and wife team who have made an art of their unique strain of photography. Exuding an eerie sensuality combined with a narrative cinematic sensibility, the ambiguous nature of their characters and scenarios lends to compositions reminiscent of David Lynch and Edward Hopper. Their work has been featured and supported by Vogue Italia as well as cutting edge magazines like Aesthetica, Blink, Musee and L’oeil de la Photographie. In 2012, Formento & Formento were nominated as a top finalist to Vogue’s “New Exposure”Competition, working with Bottega Venetta and Red Digital Camera. Their works were selected by Alessia Glaviano, photo editor of Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue, for a “Glimpse at Photo Vogue” at Carla Sozzani Gallery in 2014, and for “45 Frames from Photo Vogue” at Leica Milan Gallery in 2015. The duo have seen amazing responses from their shows at Art Basel Miami Beach, AIPAD, Photo Paris, Photo London, Photo Shanghai and The Armory Show. Having already held solo exhibitions in Paris, London, Berlin, Stuttgart, and Dusseldorf, Formento & Formento exhibited previously at Art Miami in 2014, where they debuted—to widespread acclaim—their “She is Cuba” series. BJ and Richielle Formento are natives of Hawaii and London, respectively, and currently split their time and work between New York and Miami.
