Though March Avery was surrounded by some of the greatest painters of the 20th century growing up, she laughs at the though that she received training or advice from any of them. "Artists don't like to talk about anything but their own art – and not just those artists either," she insists. "All artists are egotistical,” Avery said. She never studied art or took courses in painting and drawing, instead, she purused a degree from Barnard in Philosophy. “I knew no one but artists, so I knew that is all I would ever be,” Avery said. Despite the fact that Avery denounces receiving training from her father, her work resembles his. Quiet, reduced forms, elegantly rendered in every day situations. Quiet elegance of everyday life "Artists don't like to talk about anything but their own art – and not just those artists either," she insists. "All artists are egotistical."
